Eilon Caspi

Eilon Caspi, PhD, is a gerontologist and elder mistreatment researcher. He has worked in the aging field throughout his adult life, beginning in 1994 as a nurse aide in a nursing home where his grandfather lived. Since then, he has worked as a social worker, educator, author, consultant, dementia behavior specialist, applied researcher, and elder care advocate in long-term care homes. Over the past 19 years, he has led several research studies to improve understanding of various forms of elder mistreatment in nursing homes and assisted living residences. He is currently planning a project that will focus on people from the LGBTQ+ community who have been mistreated in nursing homes nationwide.

Trained in qualitative research methods, his research studies focus primarily on the lived experience of victims of mistreatment. He enjoys translating applied research into care practices and policy changes. He authored an award-winning book on preventing resident-to-resident incidents in dementia in long-term care homes and co-directed the film Fighting for Dignity. He also authored a children’s book on Alzheimer’s disease in nursing homes titled What I’ve Learned About Grandma’s Memory. He recently launched a website called Nobody Spoke Up, which he describes as The Triangle of Fear of Retaliation in long-term care homes (https://www.nobodyspokeup.org/).

He is a founding member and advisor of Elder Voice Advocates in Minnesota and the owner and director of Dementia Behavior Consulting in Connecticut.

Eilon received the 2025 Janet Wells Public Policy Leadership Award from the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care.

In his free time, he enjoys woodcarving. Over the years, he has carved pieces such as giant pencils (6-8 feet), brain hemispheres, and educational signs like SEE Me Not My Dementia, Justice for Elders, Elders’ Lives Matter, and Heroes Work Here.
