Harvey Whirt

Harvey Wirht was born in Suriname where he started his music career. He continued his studies at the Berklee College of Music and has since then recorded over 40 albums including “Life Overflowing” with John Tchicai and Charley Colhase, awarded outstanding album in the Boston Awards 2000.

Harvey has worked with multi Grammy winners, Angelique Kidjo, Harry Belafonte, Lauren Hill and Ziggy Marley and performed at the NAACP awards, the Jay Leno Show, the late night show with David Letterman, Good Morning America and the Peace ball for the inauguration of president Obama.

Harvey Wirht has received the " honorary order of the yellow star "from the Surinamese government and is the founder of the band Caribbo with ATN Stadwijk featuring Hall of fame inductee steel pianist Andy Narell.

Your host, Dion Parson, is an educator, composer, Grammy Award-winning performer, and bandleader. He currently resides on the island of St. Thomas and serves as the Chair of the Communication and Performing Arts Department at the University of the Virgin Islands. He is also the President of the United Jazz Foundation, which is a music education organization that mentors underprivileged kids to become musicians. His musical career has allowed him to tour internationally for over 30 years, and he has been recorded on over 110 recordings
