Dr. Art Ulene

Dr. Art Ulene, whose 23-year tenure as the medical expert on the TODAY show, became known as “Family Doctor,” achieved national acclaim for his ability to accurately simplify complex medical information for general medical audiences. He has always been a passionate promoter of public and personal health and is most proud of the activities that inspired huge numbers of people to adopt healthier behaviors. His annual month-long weight loss series actively involved more than 100,000 participants.

Dr. Ulene is currently working on the use of technology to promote healthy behavior change, health literacy, disease prevention, and wellness across diverse populations at meaningful scale.

Dr. Ulene retired in 1961 to pursue a life of adventure and travel. Since then, he has visited 83 countries and climbed over 17,000 feet on four mountains, including two trips to the 19,341’ summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He repeated his climb to the summit for his 90th birthday in July 2026, at which time he claimed the World Record as the oldest person to do so.

Dr. Ulene is currently working on a book about healthy aging, along with developing an online membership program.
